ZOOM class: Let’s Explore Lines!

Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center presents Art & Creativity Professional Development for Early Childhood Teachers & Parents of Children Ages 3-6!

 

Lines are not only the building blocks of visual art but are also foundational for letter and number writing skills. In this session, explore how children can build basic vocabulary kinesthetically,  describe lines in works of art and then create compositions that develop their understanding of lines in an engaging and creative way!

MATERIALS NEEDED: One piece of 9x12 navy or black construction paper along with construction paper crayons, colored pencils or crayons. (Any type of paper and something to draw with will work!)

All online classes will be taught via Zoom. Links will be provided prior to class. All times are listed in HST.

Instructor

Melanie Rick is a National Board Certified Teacher, certified Reading Specialist, and co-owner and senior arts integration consultant for Focus 5, Inc. She designs and leads workshops, in-depth courses, and summer institutes focused on aligning arts integration, best instructional practices, and current research in the fields of arts and education. Melanie works in art museums, schools, and art centers across the country. She is currently a course leader and instructional arts coach for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Art’s Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) program in Washington, D.C. She also served as the CETA program consultant for five years, working with teaching artists to develop and evaluate workshops presented at the Kennedy Center. Melanie holds her MA in Literacy Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech and her BA in Elementary and Special Education from Clemson University. She has twenty years of experience integrating the arts with education.
