Color in Printmaking Workshop - All Levels

Are you new to printmaking? Do you have printmaking experience and want to expand your palette? Are you a seasoned printmaker who would like to understand color a bit better or spice up your practice? This workshop is for you. Working primarily with monotype and stenciling techniques, we will delve into color theory and practice, exploring color mixing, layering, problem solving, color systems and intuitive responses to color.

 

The language of color will be used to gain confidence and strengthen individual working palettes.  Expand your range of color by exploring the subtleties of hue, value and chroma through color mixing and multiple drop printing.

 

With over 30 years of experience teaching color, Robynn will help advance your understanding and practical use of color. Be part of a colorful printmaking adventure full of inspiration and camaraderie. 

 

High quality, water washable oil-based inks will be used in a non-toxic studio environment.

  • Day 1- Introduction of language and concepts, demonstration, color exercises
  • Day 2-expanded exercises, studio practice, short critique

All supplies included in class fee.  Additional paper may be available for purchase.

Instructor

Robynn Smith earned her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MA and MFA from San Jose State University. She is a Professor Emeritus at Monterey Peninsula College, where she ran the Studio Arts program for many years. Notable workshop teaching and residencies include Anderson Ranch Art Center, Donkey Mill Art Center, Honolulu Printmakers, Landscape Arts Research in Queenstown, Tasmania, Open Studio in Toronto, Kala Art Institute, Snowmass Village, Frans Masereel Centrum, and Rhode Island School of Design. Robynn exhibits her prints and mixed media paintings nationally and internationally, in museums, educational art institutions, and galleries.
