Instructor

Kānaka Maoli artist Kēla Kahikina was born on O’ahu and raised on Maui. Throughout her childhood, she took art classes, which influenced her to pursue painting and ceramics in college—first earning her Associates Degree at Maui College then later receiving her Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in Ceramics from The University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.

Kēla has exhibited her artwork in the Hawai’i Craftsmen in 2018 and 2021, in the Art of Trash, at Aupuni Space, and at Hui No’eau. Her interests lie within ceramic sculpture, abstract painting, and costume design. While earning her bachelor’s degree, Kēla fell in love with challenging core elements of what defines a medium. Allowing her to create her own definition of what ceramics or painting is by deconstructing traditional modes within art.
